Attention all Classic Gaming Fans!

Announcing the California Extreme T-shirt Design Contest!

For our big 10th show and to elicit more involvement from the "arcade" community, we at the CA Extreme staff decided that it would be fun to hold a contest for the T-shirt design for this year's show. We were thinking that a design contest would be a great way to get more participation from the always enthusiastic folks in the arcade community.

We've certainly had fun designing our shirts in the past and had some great designs, but let's see what other artistically-inclined folks in the arcade community can come up with!

The contest will involve everyone (not just the designers) in that once a design has been submitted and approved, it will be posted on the CA Extreme website for comments and voting.

Here are the rules:

  • Keep your designs relatively simple using spot colors. The printer we have been using can print six screens, including black outline. Four-color processes are tricky and we'd like to stick with spot colors if possible. There are other printers who can do up to a dozen screens, but we prefer to stick with a local shop for quality control.
  • Try to choose colors in your design with a consideration for the color of the actual shirt itself. For example, can your design be printed on both dark and light colored shirts? Does it need a white "flood" or can you use the shirt color as a "free" color? These are some of the picky details of making a good shirt (trust us, we've learned this the hard way). If you are just trying to put together a design, don't restrict yourself too much with these details, but keep in mind that these kinds of problems do come up!
  • Use video game and pinball characters. Try to get about a 50/50 mixture of both. We strive for a design with broad appeal so more attendees will be happy with the shirt. We print on high quality shirts and intend for them to last.
  • No offensive or obscene designs. CA Extreme reserves the right to make this judgment.
  • Winning design will become the property of California Extreme.
  • CA Extreme reserves the right to select the final design in all cases.

Also, keeping in mind that this is our 10th show, designs that take into account this factor are very much encouraged (but by no means required).

And you are welcome to submit as many designs as you like!

The Winner!

If your design is chosen as the winner, you will receive the following:

  • 2 free weekend passes to the show
  • 2 free T-shirts with your winning design (your choice of size)
  • 2 free raffle tickets

As an additional incentive, if your design is chosen and you are able to also see the process all the way through to providing final color separations of the complete art for your winning design (we will need to work with the print shop locally), you will receive an additional 2 free weekend passes (4 total).

That's over $200 worth of admissions and other free stuff, plus of course you get to enjoy the show with the added benefit of seeing your design on the official shirt for years to come!

Where to Submit and Deadlines

Designs should be submitted to caxtshirtcontest@gmail.com

Voting will take place after the deadline for submissions. Check back then to vote.

Deadlines

T shirt designs must be submitted/received by 5/31/06. The earlier we receive a design, the better!

Voting will end on 6/7/06. Votes will then be tallied and the winning design will be announced shortly thereafter.

Thanks and we certainly hope to see you all at the show!
